CLEANING YOUR B YOGA PRODUCTS
A how-to guide on caring for your B Yoga products. Ensure that your favourite props and tools live a long and clean life.
Classic B MATS
What is good B MAT day-to-day maintenance / cleaning?
The best way to clean your B MAT is by wiping the surface on a regular basis with plain water or by using our tested and approved -- B Yoga's The Cleanser. Alternatively, you can use mild soap and water or a pH neutral cleaner. Any of these options are an effective gentle cleaner, great on a B MAT surface.
How do I give my mat a deep clean?
We recommend giving your B Mat a deep clean 2-3 times a year or when your mat could use extra hydration!
To give your B MAT a deep clean, soak it in the tub or shower, allow it to completely saturate with water then lay it flat to dry, out of direct or indirect sunlight for 24-48 hours (sunlight can cause UV damage and is not covered under warranty!)
When performing a deep clean it is completely normal to see a yellowish tinge to the water run-off the mat, and/or suds or soapy like substance when pressing down on a fully saturated B MAT.
There is a yellowish tinge or soapy suds in the runoff water when cleaning my mat, is this normal?
It's completely normal to see runoff water being a tinge off-colour and/or some soapy suds coming out of your mat when washing. Proceed to wash and dry as directed. These are just components of the interior layer coming forth in the washing process due to being fully saturated.
Can I leave my B Mat outside to dry?
Because B MATs are like a sponge, a fully saturated mat may take 48+ hours to dry out. Sunlight can oxidize the rubber material of the B MAT therefore compromising its grippiness and colour. This can occur directly if left outside in the sun OR indirectly through car/home/studio windows. We recommend drying your mat in a shaded area out of sunlight (indirect or direct). UV damage is not covered under warranty!
Avoid hanging your mat over metal or wood and leave yourself enough time to have the mat dry before you practice on it.
Which chemicals can I use on my mat?
Due to the natural and open-celled nature of the B MAT, we recommend avoiding using solvents, harsh abrasives, undiluted oils, or added moisturisers as these will clog or break down the compounds that keep the B MAT grippy and supportive.
Please see recommended cleaning instructions above for our recommended day-to-day maintenance/cleaning!
My mat has lost its grip
The B Mat is known for its unsurpassed grip. If your mat arrived out of packaging please reach out to our customer support team to assist you further. If your has lost its grip overtime, your mat may be dehydrated and we recommend a deep clean to bring back some of the moisture and grippy texture. (See instructions on how to perform a Deep Clean)
Please note that if the Mat has lost its grip due to UV damage this is not covered as a defective
My mat is too sticky
The grip of the mat is inherent to the B MAT, and after use and time it will soften. If the texture is too grippy for your preference, the best way to relax is to regularly wipe it down with water after practice.
My mat smells out of packaging
The B Mat is made of a natural and biodegradable rubber, and may have a subtle smell that typically dissipates with time and use. The good news is, the scent is not derived from any harsh chemicals! We recommend airing your mat out in a spare room with air flow or performing a deep clean of your mat, with additional regular wipe-downs after each use which should remove any scent from the manufacturing process, or anything picked up from the packaging or shipping.
My mat is crumbling/showing signs of wear
The B MAT is biodegradable. We take pride in the fact that the B MAT will not last in a landfill for hundreds of years therefore you will see natural wear and tear on a B MAT throughout the course of its life (Yay mother Earth!) The life span is dependent on a number of things, of note: 1) How often you practice, 2) Your style of practice, 3) How you store your B MAT and 4) How you care for your B MAT.
Sometimes crumbling may occur or be exaggerated from friction - either in sliding during practice or how the mat is carried to and from practice. (For example a transition from a one-legged downward dog, into a low lunge, can allow for your foot to drag on the surface of the mat.)
To ensure your mat lasts as long as possible we recommend using the traditional B MAT primarily for yoga and we do not recommend using The B MAT while wearing shoes or during high interval style training or activities that require vigorous sliding and could damage the mats surface.
We understand that each situation is unique, therefore if none of the above information resonates with you, reach out to our customer support team for further assistance. We’re here to help!
My mat has discolouration
The natural rubber in your mat may be reacting with the pH levels in your sweat, or cleaning materials causing staining. If this has happened please reach out to our customer support team for further assistance. We’re here to help!
My mat won’t lie flat
It is not uncommon for the B MAT Strong or Long to have a slight curl at either end when it is first removed from the packaging. These curls will relax with time and use and are simply a result of how tightly they are rolled for shipping. The best way to relax this is to practice on the mat, leave the B MAT unrolled with the logo facing up, and when rolling it back do so with a loose roll!.
How to remove dust and pet hair
The grip of the mat is inherent to the B MAT-- Great for your yoga practice, not so great for your furry friends! Dust and/or pet hair may initially stick to the B Mat due to the grippy texture, however after use and time it will soften. The best way to reduce anything from sticking to your B Mat is to regularly wipe it down with water after practice, roll the mat up loosely facing outward and use a lint brush to remove anything that sticks to the mat.

How do I clean my B MAT Cork?
The great thing about cork is that the natural material is inherently antimicrobial which means it is fairly low maintenance! If used daily or for hot yoga, we recommend cleaning the cork after every practice, by wiping it down with water or spray the mat with The Cleanser, or alternatively, you can use mild soap and water or a pH neutral cleaner and air dry with the mat laying out flat. This helps prevent the body’s oils from building up and keeps the mat looking and smelling fresh.
